The St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Atiavi marked a historic milestone as it celebrated its 100th anniversary, bringing together clergy, dignitaries, and faithful’s from across the region. The event was a moment of reflection, appreciation, and a call for continued unity and commitment to the values of the Church.
In attendance were Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Former Minister for Youth and Sports, and several other distinguished guests.
Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana highlighted the importance of preserving the legacy of the Church’s pioneers. She urged the new generation of leaders, believers and the community to uphold the vision and sacrifices of the founding fathers. She also conveyed the President’s gratitude for the invitation to the centenary celebration and extended his best wishes to the people of Atiavi.
Delivering his address, the Bishop of the Keta-Akatsi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, emphasized the uniqueness and significance of the occasion. He noted that the centenary was a time to remember and honor all those who played vital roles in the leadership and development of the Church from its inception. He further stressed that the celebration was not just for Catholics but for all people, serving as a symbol of peace and unity within the community.
The centenary celebration was marked with prayers, cultural displays, and a renewed commitment to the values of faith, service, and community development. It served as a powerful reminder of the rich history and enduring influence of the Catholic Church in Atiavi and beyond.
