President Mahama Opens National Education Forum in Ho

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a three-day National Education Forum in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region. The forum, themed “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future,” brings together key stakeholders, including teacher unions, civil society organizations, faith-based groups, traditional authorities, and students, to discuss the transformation of Ghana’s education`n system.
Before delivering his keynote address, President Mahama extended an apology on behalf of the Planning Committee for an oversight in inviting faith-based organizations to the forum. The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) expressed their disappointment at their exclusion, despite affiliated organizations being invited. President Mahama assured them the omission had been rectified.
Acknowledging the critical role of faith-based organizations in education, he said, “We know you are important stakeholders because you own some of the schools, and so this educational forum is important to see how we carry everybody together.”
In his speech, President Mahama emphasized the need for participants to develop effective strategies to address the challenges facing quality education delivery. He urged stakeholders to focus on creating a holistic education system aligned with the country’s developmental needs, ensuring that the youth are equipped for both present and future challenges.
The President stressed the importance of placing teachers at the center of the reform process to guarantee quality education and prepare Ghanaian students to compete globally. He expressed confidence that the forum would produce actionable solutions that would drive meaningful reforms in the education sector.
Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli Traditional Area, commended President Mahama for his swift and dedicated leadership. He emphasized the importance of utilizing Ghana’s resources effectively, particularly in education, as a means to foster national development and poverty reduction.
Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, also urged participants to take the discussions seriously to help reshape Ghana’s education system. He reiterated government’s commitment to
ensuring that the forum’s outcomes lead to transformative policies that will enhance the quality and accessibility of education across the country.
The National Education Forum is expected to provide a roadmap for educational reforms that will position Ghana to achieve sustainable development through a well-structured and quality-driven education system
